While most soccer clubs in the United States have a mission specifically related to soccer. Prince William Soccer has always been so much more than a soccer club. Our mission demands that we do more by making meaningful contributions to the community through the game of soccer.
Led by one of its founders, Jim Claffey, Prince William Soccer has had an impact on hundreds of thousands of children in this area since 1976. Jim was our volunteer equipment manager who dedicated the last 30 years of his life to the club. Really he was more than that, he was the backbone of the organization who helped ensure that all kids were able to have a fun, wholesome, healthy soccer experience regardless of ability or the ability to pay. Jim spent long hours getting fields lined and equipment ready, he paid out of his own pocket many, many registrations every season, and he funded four annual scholarships for high school seniors attending college.
Today, the club asks its members, creates various events, and uses its tournaments, throughout the year to help us advance our mission and continue Jim’s legacy by giving back to the community.
In 2014, The Courage F.U.N. Project was officially established as the Community Outreach arm of Prince William Soccer. It's mission is to help provide the resources necessary to help those in the community who need it most the ability to participate in organized soccer. It supports three programs through Prince William Soccer along with other initiatives.
1. Soccer For Success- The Soccer for Success program targets tier 1 or at risks schools to teach 3rd and 4th graders about Soccer, Health, and Nutrition. Completely free to the participants and their schools.
2. TOPSoccer- program offered in affiliation with Prince William Soccer, Inc. to any child between the ages 41/2 to 18 with physical and/or mental disabilities.
3. Courage Financial Assistance Program- Every year we provide over $50,000 in financial assistance to families in the community in order for their children to have the opportunity to participate in an organized soccer league.
PWSI continues it's core values of service to the community by including a charitable organization with each of it's annual tournaments. The Toys for Tots Tournament and the Holiday Shootout both team up with the Marines Toys for Tots drive each year. The club annually donates thousands of unwrapped gifts to this great cause. The Icebreaker Tournament for several years helped the US Soccer Passback program by donating gently used soccer equipment but in the last few years we have partnered with "Hands for Haiti" in donating used soccer equipment .
We hope to continue the great work that Jim started here almost 40 years ago.
