House Commissioner
The House Commissioner (HC) works with the League Directors and the Recreational Coordinator to make sure that a structure is in place each season to enable the Recreational League to function smoothly. The HC makes sure that a league director is in place for every age group; issues guidance to coaches relative to playing within club rules; works with league directors to arbitrate issues that cross age groups; and, represents parental concerns and interests to the Club. The current House Commisisoner is Maggi Patton who can be reached at mailto:maggipatton@verizon.net.
League Directors
The League Director (LD) manages resources within their age group. They are responsible for recruiting coaches, and they work with the Recreational Coordinator to ensure that players are assigned timely and accurately. LDs serve as the primary communication link between the Recreational Coordinator, other PWSI sources, and the coaches in their age group. They are the first point of contact for issues elevated from their coaches.
Want to be a League Director?
The time commitments for being a league director vary. Preseason you will need about 15 hours spread over the four weeks before the first coaches meeting to assign players to teams, to identify coach staffing requirements, and to attend just one or two meetings.
Once the season starts your primary role will shift to being a sounding board for concerns and issues that coaches, players and player families may have. You also need to briefly contact coaches weekly to make sure that they have the latest PWSI informational updates and that their concerns are reaching upward to PWSI. Email works great for handling this task. Approximate time commitment: 1 to 1.5 hours weekly.
What makes a great league director: an organized person that enjoys sports and kids. You should always ask yourself, "Is this good for the kids?" If the answer is no then you should have no hesitation in contacting a coach or the House Commissioner and making sure that appropriate action is taken. Knowledge of soccer and having soccer skills is preferred but absolutely optional.
Will you be a league director? Contact the PWSI Clubhouse for more information.
Ombudsmen
An Ombudsman represents a specific program area within the Recreational Program. For their program area, the Ombudsmen are the primary contacts for issues related to their programs. They advise the League Directors within their age groups and may represent PWSI to other organizations. They are subject matter experts in their program areas and advise the Club on specific issues and concerns. We have two ombudsmen.
The Suburban Friendship League Commissioner is Bill Sabbagh and he can be reached at Sabbagh.Bill@epamail.epa.gov.
The Challenge League Ombudsman is Paul Miller and he can be reached at pmiller13@comcast.net.
