PWSI Player to Participate in Sports Ambassador Program
Silas Carden to attend youth games in Holland
Silas Carden, a 12 year-old soccer player and former member of the Prince William Soccer Inc. family, has been accepted into the People to People Sports Ambassador Program. This summer, Carden will train in Amsterdam, before competing in Haarlem, the Netherlands, as part of the Youth Friendship Games. As part of this 10 day program, he will explore Holland with teammates from throughout the United States. In addition to building athletic skills, Carden can earn academic credit while getting to know the people, culture and history of the places visited. He will take part in a variety of activities such as exploring some of Amsterdam’s 500 miles of canals, wandering through outdoor fish and flower markets, enjoying Haarlem’s colorful shops, riding bicycles through the ancient fishing village of Volendam and the quaint town of Edam and visiting the Anne Frank House. Acceptance into the Sports Ambassador Program is an honor. The international competition and education program was founded by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1956. Before departing, Carden will attend orientation meetings with a local coordinator and coaches to prepare for the journey. He will be met overseas and accompanied by a team of experienced coaches and teacher-leaders. The athletic delegation will be escorted by a local delegation manager who coordinates the cultural and recreational excursions and is very familiar with local customs. President Eisenhower founded People to People during his presidency with citizen leaders including entertainer Bob Hope, Olympic champion Jesse Owens, amusement entrepreneur Walt Disney and Hallmark Cards founder Joyce Hall. Having served as a military commander, Eisenhower believed that ordinary citizens of different nations could make a difference where governments could not. People to People Student Ambassador Programs is based in Spokane, Washington, and has been coordinating the educational travel programs for nearly 50 years. Trevor McEachron Selected by Galaxy
After not being selected in the 2006 Super Draft despite a strong showing in the MLS combine, Trevor McEachron wasn't sure about his chances of playing in the MLS. But after being selected Thursday in the first round of the Supplemental Draft by the Los Angeles Galaxy - one of his top choices - the 22-year-old former all-American defender decided to go for it.
McEachron will have a difficult time moving from the Reserve Division to the first team but is confident of his ability to play in the MLS ranks. He suffered a horrific injury to his right knee in the fall of 2003 and had to rehabilitate it the rest of his sophomore year and all of his junior season. After a strong senior year in which he earned All-Colonial Athletic Association and all-South Atlantic Region first team honors, McEachron appears to be fully recovered and ready to play.
PWSI Alum Trevor McEachron Invited to MLS Combine
Old Dominion University Senior defender Trevor McEachron (Woodbridge, VA) is one of 54 college seniors nationwide selected to participate in the 2006 Major League Soccer Player Combine. For the third consecutive year, the annual combine will be held at The Home Depot Center in Carson, California from January 12-15, 2006.
McEachron, named to the All-CAA First Team for the third time in his career, made an improbable comeback from seven knee operations to be one of the anchors of a Monarch defense that posted 12 shutouts in 21 contests. His contributions played a major role in the Monarchs achieving a #10 seed in the NCAA tournament, the highest seeding in school history.
Coaches and general managers from all 12 MLS franchises will be in attendance during the Combine to scout talent for their annual MLS SuperDraft, which commences on Friday January 20th in Philadelphia, PA. Last year, 39 Combine participants were selected out of the four round, 48 slot draft, including New England Revolution star Michael Parkhurst, last season's MLS Rookie of the Year.
The initial list of players for the 2006 adidas Player Combine was determined by a select panel of Division I college coaches representing all conferences, who nominated and voted for players in conjunction with MLS coaches.
If selected McEachron will join former PWSI player, David Stokes, who finished his second year with D.C. United in the MLS.

No. 8 Penn State Shuts Out Loyola, 5-0
Krieger Paces Lions with Two Goals
UNIVERSITY PARK, Md.; Sept. 1, 2005 - Penn State's women's soccer team moved to 3-0 on the season when they defeated visiting Loyola 5-0 Thursday night at Jeffrey Field. Junior midfielder Ali Krieger (Dumfries, Va.) led all scorers for the No. 8 Lions with two goals, including the gamewinner 11 minutes into the contest.
Krieger started the Lions' offense early, making space for herself and beating her defender with a hard strike from the right side of the box into the left side of the net. The goal, which came at the 10:57 mark, was Krieger's second of the year.
The Virginia-native scored her second goal of the day when freshman midfielder Sheree Gray (Toms River, N.J.) took the ball deep to the right side of the box and unleashed a deadly-accurate cross to the middle where Krieger was on the move. The junior made the deposit in the 29th minute to put the Lions up 2-0.
Gray made it happen again in the second half when she entered a footrace with her defender and won. It appeared at first that the impending cross to Penn State leading scorer Tiffany Weimer (North Haven, Conn.) would get tied up in traffic in the box, but a miscue by a Loyola defender coupled by some heads-up play by Weimer snuck the pass through. Weimer then tapped it past Loyola keeper Kate Gilfillan for her fifth goal of the season and the Lions' third of the day.
Sophomore Aubrey Aden-Buie (Allentown, Pa.) netted her first goal of the 2005 season, scoring on a Holly Lincoln (Scarborough, Ontario) assist in the 75th minute. Lion freshman Allie Daus (Plano, Texas) was credited with Penn State's final goal of the day when she helped redirect the ball into the net for the 5-0 Lion victory.
Penn State starting goalkeeper Erin McLeod (Vancouver, B.C.) left the game after 69:52 minutes of action, recording her first shutout of the year.
No. 4 Virginia (3-0) visits the Lions on Sunday, Sept. 4, for a 1 p.m. match. The game will mark the third match-up against a ranked team this year for Penn State and the second vs. a Top 10 team. Penn State then packs its bag for the UCLA Women's Cup on Sept. 9 and 11. The Lions match-up with the No. 3 Bruins on Friday, Sept. 9, at 6 p.m. PT and follow it up with a game on Sunday, Sept. 11, vs. Southern California at 2 p.m. PT.

No. 3 Penn State Women's Soccer Team Shuts Out No. 19 Maryland 6-0
Krieger Nets Two Goals in Top 25 Win
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; October 27, 2004- M.A.C Hermann Trophy candidate Tiffany Weimer (North Haven, Conn.) scored a season-high seven points and joined with sophomore Ali Krieger (Dumfries, Va.), a Prince William Soccer Inc. standout, who scored the gamewinner and added another goal, to lead the No. 3 Penn State women's soccer team to a 6-0 win over No. 19 Maryland Wednesday night at Jeffrey Field.
Krieger scored both first half goals in the opening 10 minutes for the Lions, who raise their record to 15-1-1. Maryland now falls to 7-5-3 on the year. Penn State opened up the scoring in the final 20 minutes, however, adding four goals to extend the lead to the final 6-0 tally.
Brooke Mertz (Palmerton, Pa.) began the second-half action with a goal in the 75th minute, followed by a conversion from sophomore Holly Lincoln (Scarborough, Ontario) to make it a 4-0 game. Weimer scored twice in 21 seconds to make the final a 6-0 victory for Penn State. The junior striker also scattered three assists throughout the night, including an assist on Krieger's gamewinner. Krieger returned the favor on Weimer's second tally, ending the night with a season-high five points.
The victory extended Penn State's home win-streak to 37 games in a row, and marked the Lions' seventh win over a Top 25 team this season. The shutout was also Penn State's eighth in a row and 13th in the last 14 games. Junior goalkeeper Erin McLeod (Vancouver, B.C.), who was already leading the country in goals against average with a 0.21 average saw her season-long mark shrink again. McLeod and the Lion defense, led by fellow All-American candidate Natalie Jacobs (Centreville, Va.), helped the Lions to their 13th shutout of the year, which will help keep them near the top of the standings in shutout percentage, a category they lead nationally this week.
The Nittany Lions host Navy on Friday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m. on senior night. Five Lions will be honored before the game, which will be the final regular season home contest for Penn State this season. The Big Ten Tournament starts next week in Columbus, Ohio. The Lions captured their seventh-straight Big Ten championship with a perfect 10-0 conference season this year and as the No. 1 seed will face Indiana on Thursday, Nov. 4, at 10:30 a.m.
