U12 Girls White Division Epic Final Memorable For More Than The Game
Dedicated to Cpl John Peck

We received the following email this morning and wanted to share this with everyone.  It's what Youth Sports are all about.  We want to congratulate both the Richmond Kickers and the Stafford Revolution for an unbelievable game and for teaching us that sport is more than just about winning.

Good morning Tracy and Steve:

First, I want to thank you for hosting such a fantastic tournament this weekend; I always enjoy bringing our teams your way for what has always been great match-ups on beautiful fields.

As you know, the final match in the U12 Girls White division was played between Stafford Revolution White and Richmond Kickers South Freedom. If you didn’t get a chance to see it, what a GREAT match against two wonderful teams that ended after nearly two dozen PKs! Prior to the game, both teams agreed to dedicate our match to Cpl John Peck, a young mortar section leader with the 3/1 Marines. Peck recently lost both arms and legs while serving in Afghanistan and is currently recovering at Walter Reed. He received two Purple Hearts – one when he came out of his surgery, and another once it was determined he would actually live. The Marine Reserves drive the annual Toys for Tots and program, and we felt it was fitting given the name of this tournament that we dedicate our performance to something bigger than ourselves.

I’ve attached a joint photo that the girls took yesterday, and we’ll be sending a care package on behalf of both teams to Cpl Peck, along with a PWSI Toys for Tots medal.

Thanks again,

Joe DiStefano

Coach, Stafford Revolution
