Angela Ruf Name VYSA 2011 Young Female Referee of The Year

Angela started as a Grade 9 referee at age 12 and one season later upgraded to Grade 8. She has followed a traditional refereeing route starting with officiating recreational matches then being increasingly challenged with competitive assignments in ODSL, VCCL, and WAGS. She was also selected to referee in the State Cup final matches last month.

Angela has officiated in the WAGS Tournament the past four years; her performance each year earning her a spot in Mondays' championship games. This year she was teamed with Carla Nagel Winters and Henrik Iversen in officiating the U15 Cup Flight final between the VSA Heat Blue and the Palm Beach (FL) Magicjacks, the top rated teams in Regions I and III respectively.  Her calm but confident poise drew praise and admiration from the tournament officials, her own referee crew, and even the players.

In addition to refereeing, Angela played competitive soccer throughout high school for PWSI. She currently is a second year student studying at NOVA.

Angela joins Ryan White (2007, 2008); Stephanie Myrick (2009); and Stephanie Ellis (2010) making the fifth consecutive year that PWSRA has produced an outstanding young referee and state award winner.

Angela will be honored at the VYSA Workshop in Richmond on February 4.

Congratulations Angela!
