Prince William Courage partners with positive coaching alliance

Focuses on winning and life lessons for youth athletes

May 15, 2012, Woodbridge, VA– Prince William Courage has established a partnership with Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) to ensure a positive, character-building experience for all youth athletes in Courage programs. PCA (www.PositiveCoach.org), a Stanford University-based non-profit organization, conducts workshops for coaches, organizational leaders, and parents involved in schools and sports organizations serving five-to-18-year-old athletes. PCA also provides workshops for high school athletes.

“Working with hundreds of youth sports organizations around the United States, PCA has developed practical tools and guidelines to help youth athletes, their coaches and parents get the most out of sports,” said Mike Yeatts, Executive Director, Prince William Courage. “We recognize the tremendous opportunity for character-building sports offers for today’s youth, so we are embracing PCA’s Double-Goal Coach^® model, where winning is one goal and teaching life lessons is the second, more-important goal.”

“We are delighted to partner with Prince William Courage,” said PCA Executive Director Jim Thompson. “Together, we’ll strive to help their youth athletes take a positive approach to pursuing victories in athletic competition and in life.”

As part of the Finish Off Howison Park Campaign, Prince William Soccer is happy to announce that the Park will be receiving a new play-ground, a bathroom and concession stand facility, along with turf on Field #1.  The work will begin this summer and completed by the end of the Fall Season. 

If you have been following us on twitter and facebook, you know that the old play ground has been torn out and a new playground is already almost completed.  The new playground will no longer be made of wood but rather of plastic and metal.  The old sand that once encompassed the playground has now been replaced by wood chips.  Check out our facebook and twitter accounts for the finalized pictures or just come out to the park and enjoy it.

The bathroom and concession stand facility is scheduled to begin late Summer and be finished in early Fall.  The building will be 2 stories and will include restrooms, concession stand, storage space, and a meeting area.    The building will be located between Field #2 and #3 and will be completed by the end of November 2012.

Field #1 will begin its transformation to turf starting June 18^th.  The process should last 6-8 weeks (depending on the weather).  Howison Park will be closed during the days or while any machines are operating on Field #1.  Once field #1 is completed, Howison Park will have synthetic turf on all 3 full size fields at the Park, and the only place in the county with 3 lit synthetic turf fields.

PWSI is happy to announce its 2012-2013 Select Program Tryout dates which can be found below.  

We are happy to also announce our 2012-2013 Select Coaching Slate which can be found towards the bottom of the page.  

We are happy to announce our Uniform Try-On Dates will be the weekend of June 23-24, along with the 2012-2013 Select Meeting.  We encourage all parents to attend!

Below you will also find our fees for the upcoming season.  The fees will be broken down at a later date.  

This year’s tryout will carry a $10 fee as each player will receive a tryout shirt.  We ask that all participants pre-register online.

To Register online, every family will need to create a new account (this is a brand new registration system, so all families, regardless if you have played here before or not, need to create a new account), and then select  the 2012-2013 Select Tryout for your child’s age group.  Follow the on-screen instructions to register.

Prince William Soccer is proud to announce our New 10-Month Academy Program.  Full Details of the Program will be released May 15th.

Tryouts for the 2012-2013 Academy Season will be held May 21 and 22.  The program will be open to upcoming U7 and U8 players (must be born between 8/01/04- 7/31/06 to be able to participate).

Prince William Soccer is proud to announce the revamped U7/U8 Academy Program.  The revamped program will give our younger players the opportunity to train throughout the year.  The program will include training with PWSI’s Nationally Licensed Staff, along with in-house fall, winter, and Spring Leagues.  Prince William is committed to the development of younger players, and feels that this program is a home run.

The following will all be included in the cost for the program:

-Two Full Nike Uniform Kits

- In-House League Each Season (guaranteed 8 games and 3 seasons)

-Fully Licensed Staff Coaching Fees

- Field Rental Fees

- Ball

- VCCL Crossover Matches (the number of matches will vary from Season to Season)

- U8/U9 PWSI Friendlies (Proposed for spring 2013)

- Three other Possibilities include Icebreaker Tournament, All-Star Tournament, and Loudoun U8 Friendlies (these are not definitely included in the price)

Academy Setup

Each member that wishes to be included in this program will need to try-out and be selected from the program.  Tryouts will take place from 5:30-7:00 PM May 21-22 at Chinn Park Field #1.  Once selected, there will be a parents meeting for more details and information.  Players will be placed in teams for the fall, winter, and Spring Season.  Teams will have between 7-10 players per team, depending on the number of players in the Academy.  Players will change teams after each season.  Training sessions will consist of two teams training together under the guidance of a select coach.  These same two teams will train together, at the same day and time, for the remainder of that season.

Training:

-          Once a week for an hour and half

-          Average 16 kids a sessions

-          Same time and same day each week (for each season)

-          10 Weeks of training (Fall and Spring)

-          8 Week Indoor Training (1 Hour Sessions)

-          Always Trained By Fully Licensed Staff Member, or Director of Youth Development

-          Assistant Coach (Parent Volunteer) will stay with the group each season and assist PWSI Staff Member

-          All Sessions will designed in accordance with Director of Youth U7/U8 Curriculum

Games:

-          Played in the 5v5 format

-          Coached by Fully Licensed Staff Member, or Director of Youth Development

-          Games will be played on Howison Park Turf Fields Saturday Early Evenings (Spring and Fall)

-          Winter Futsal League will be held at one of numerous gyms in Eastern Prince William County

-          5v5 for Futsal League

The program will cost a total of $750 for the entire year.  The fees will be broke down seasonally for a charge of $250.  

The 13-19 Age Group Winner is Seth Opoku-Yeboah.  Seth will be presented with a brand new iPad for his winning video, which can be seen below.

How Has PWSI Impacted Your Life?

Prince William Soccer’s Mission is to make meaningful contributions in the community through the game of soccer.  We want to hear how PWSI plays an impact in your life and or those in the community.  We are looking to hear your stories through essays, slide shows, or videos.  A committee will review all of the entries and determine a winner. Entries will be judged on the following criteria:

·         Creativity

·         Involvement in the Club

·         Relevance

·         Club Impact

·         Story Telling

The Contest will be broken down into 3 categories: Coach/Parent/Volunteer, Players age 13-19, Players 12 and under.  The following prizes will be awarded to winner’ in each category:

1^st: 3 Day 2 Night Stay in Orlando, Florida

2^nd: 4 Tickets to DC United Game

1^st: IPAD

2^nd: 4 Tickets to DC United Game

Players 12 and Under

2^nd: New Nike Soccer Ball

Spring 2012 Important Dates

Starting in the Fall 2011 season players will not be allowed to play if they do not have proof of birth on file with PWSI.  If you have played in the past and we do not have proof of birth on file, you will need to provide it when we contact you.  Players that register online and fail to provide proof of birth will be placed on the wait-list until proof is provided.

We did change systems 3 years ago, so please plan on having proof of birth with you when registering.
