Ken Krieger to be Inducted into the VYSA Hall of Fame

It is without doubt Ken Krieger has made an enormous impression on the game of soccer in Virginia. His footprint includes four State Championships while at the helm at C.D. Hylton High School, two NSCAA Divison I High School National Championships, two USYSA Regional Championships, and the most wins by a VHSL Boys Soccer Coach with an overall record of 386-191-39. His coaching career has seen him in many positions including head coach at Hartford College (1977-1978), assistant coach at American University (1984-1987) where the team was a National Finalist in 1985, and George Mason University (1987-1988). He has served as the VYSA Womens Coaching Director, and as a USYSA Region I Staff Member. Furthermore, he has worked the sidelines with the D.C. United and Washington Freedom youth programs where he led teams to two Final Four appearances and one National Championship. While one could go on and on about Krieger’s coaching record, the true measure of his success is the impact he has had on his players and colleagues.

Prince William Player and Referee, Stephanie Myrick, Named VYSA Young Referee of the Year

Congratulations to Stephanie Myrick who was named Virginia Youth Soccer Association’s Young Female Referee of the Year. Stephanie, who is a senior at Woodbridge Senior H.S., was recognized at tonight’s Annual Membership Meeting of PWSRA by Paul Mungra, State Director of Instruction.

Stephanie began refereeing with PWSRA when she was 12 years of age. She twice attended PRIDE Academy and after being named Camper of the Year (2008), she set her goal to become a Grade 7 referee by the time she turned 17 years old. She completed all the requirements becoming Virginia’s youngest Grade 7 referee this past spring.

Stephanie has refereed State Cup finals, ODP Friendlies, and attended the ODP Camp this past summer in Rhode Island. She has been selected to referee the Region I Tournament in West Virginia next year and most recently refereed the U17G State Cup Final earlier this month in Richmond.

Stephanie played for PWSI from age eight through 17, most recently with PWSI Courage ’91 White. She also coached a U12B for PWSI this fall.

Stephanie will be honored by VYSA at their annual convention awards recognition luncheon on Saturday January 23, 2010.

Courage 94 Boys Ranked #7 in the Nation

The Courage 94 Red Boys, coached by Ken Krieger and Justin Joswick, captured the CASL Showcase Championship held in Raleigh, NC (Dec. 12-13).   The 94 Reds opened the tournament with a 2-1 win over Lake Grove United from NY.  They then took on the Chicago Fire Jr’s, besting them in a pk shootout.  In the final round of group play, The 94 Reds battled against VA State Champions Reston Knights.  They won the match 3-2.  The final proved to be another day at the office, as Courage beat United FC Inter (Kentucky State Champions) 2-0 in regular time.  Congrats to the 94 Red Boys!

39 Courage Players Selected to Virginia State ODP Pool Teams

Prince William Courage is pleased to announce that 39 Courage players were chosen to represent Virginia in the ODP State program.  This a great accomplishment for the club and these players.  Best of luck to all of them as they compete for State team selection.

Three Courage Players Selected to Region I Team

Congratulations to Sheldon Sullivan, Greg Boehme, and Joel Teston of the Courage 94 Red Boys Team on being selected to the Region I ODP team.  Only 7 players were selected from Virginia and to have 3 of those 7 come from Prince William Courage is a great accomplishment both for these players and the club.

The players will compete in the Thanksgiving Interregional Event at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex.  The players will train and compete with other elite players from around the country in front of U.S. National Team, Professional, and College coaches.  The event will maximize their exposure for selection to the highest levels of play in the United States.

Article Correction:  Congratulations to Mason Fish on being selected to the Region I team as well.  Unfrotunately, he will not be able to participate in the event due to injury.
